The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission Combined Engineering Services (TNPSC CES) exam is a state-level examination conducted to recruit eligible candidates for various engineering positions in the Tamil Nadu state government departments. These posts are highly sought after, offering career opportunities in sectors such as Public Works, Highways, and Rural Development. TNPSC CES is primarily intended for civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers aspiring to work in government services.

The TNPSC CES exam is conducted in two stages: a written examination and an interview or oral test. The written exam consists of two papers—Paper I and Paper II. Paper I is subject-specific, focusing on topics related to Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, depending on the candidate's educational background. Paper II is more general, testing candidates on general studies, current affairs, and mental ability. Both papers are conducted in objective format, and candidates must score a minimum of 30% in Tamil language proficiency to qualify.

After clearing the written exam, shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview. This oral test assesses the candidate’s technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and overall suitability for the role. The final selection is made based on the combined performance in the written exam and interview, with special consideration given to candidates from reserved categories as per the state’s reservation policies.

To be eligible for TNPSC CES, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical) from a recognized university and must be within the age limit specified by the TNPSC, typically between 21 to 30 years, with age relaxations for reserved categories.

TNPSC CES is a competitive exam that offers a stable career with growth opportunities in state government engineering services. Candidates aspiring to secure these positions should have strong technical knowledge, a good grasp of general studies, and a focused preparation strategy. Clearing the TNPSC CES opens the door to a rewarding career in public service, with the chance to contribute to the development of Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure and governance.
