About NLSIU Bangalore

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) is a premier law school located in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. It was the first National Law University to be established in India. It was established in 1987 through a notification of the then Vice President of India, Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma, who was also the then Chief Justice of India. The university provides a five-year integrated undergraduate Honours program in law; and, is considered to be one of the best law schools in India. It is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It has produced some of the most renowned lawyers and judges in the country.

NLSIU also operates several centres and initiatives like the Centre for Legal Research & Documentation (CLRD), Centre for International Law (CIL), Centre for Law and Economics (CLE), Centre for Management of Professional Practice (CMPP), Centre for Child and the Law (CCL) and Centre for Gender Justice and Law (CGJL).

NLSIU Bangalore Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for admission to the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bangalore are as follows:

1. For the 5-Year B.A.LL.B: • Candidates should have passed the Class 10+2 (or equivalent) examination with 45% aggregate marks. • Candidates should be 19 years or above of age.

2. For the 3-Year LLB: • Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% aggregated marks. • There is no age limit for applicants. In addition to the eligibility criteria mentioned above, all the applicants should also appear for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).

NLSIU Bangalore Selection Criteria

The selection criteria for the National Law School of India University, Bangalore is based on the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). Candidates must appear for the CLAT exam and secure ranks so as to be eligible for admission to the university. The screening process begins with the CLAT Final Score/Rank and afterwards, the law school shortlists candidates on the basis of academic records, CLAT score and personal interviews.

The candidates are also asked to submit a self-attested copy of their matriculation mark sheets, CLAT scorecard, original documents and 2 passport-sized photographs. After the selection process is completed, the selected candidates can apply for admission to the university.

NLSIU Bangalore Admission Process

Admission to the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) requires candidates to appear for the CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) exam. It is mandated for a candidate to obtain a qualifying mark for being eligible for admission. Candidates who qualify for this exam are then shortlisted based on merit. Merit informs the ranking and the cutoff score. The academically eligible students are then invited for NLSIU's personal interview process. This is an essential criterion for selection in the college. The Personal Interview Process constitutes Verbal Ability Test, Psychological Aptitude Test & Logical Reasoning Test.

After the personal interview process, the final list of eligible and selected candidates is sent to the Admission Office. If successful, the selected candidates will get a seat allotted in the college. The following documents need to be submitted to NLSIU for admission: • CLAT Score Card • Class 10th & 12th Marks Card • Transfer Certificate • Migration Certificate • Caste Certificate (if applicable) • Passport size photograph • Photo Id Proof • Bank Statement (of expenditure fees). The National Law School of India University, Bangalore (NLSIU) offers numerous scholarships to their students. These scholarships are provided to help deserving students from various economic, social, and religious backgrounds pursue their goals of obtaining a law degree from NLSIU. The scholarships range from full tuition waivers to some financial assistance programs, and the criteria to be eligible for some of these scholarship programs are based on both merit and need.

• The State Merit Scholarships: Students who are domiciled/residing in Karnataka can apply for this scholarship program. The selection process for this scholarship will be based strictly on merit, and only those who have secured a rank in the top three are eligible for this program.

• Sir M V Scholarships: These scholarships are offered to students from economically weaker backgrounds, and is focused towards encouraging scholar excellence from the minority communities.

• Post-Graduate Merit Scholarships: These scholarships are provided to encourage meritorious students who have scored 1st/ 2nd / 3rd rank in their Semester V Examinations.

• Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon Scholarships: This scholarship is provided to those students who have secured first rank in the LL.M. Course. The award amount is Rs. 10,000/-

• CLPR Merit Scholarship: This is an exclusively funded scholarship by the Centre for Law and Policy Research (CLPR). They offer scholarships to deserving students based on their academic performance in Semester V Examinations.

• Fee Waiver Scholarships: This scholarship program is available for those who face financial constraints and require assistance towards meeting the tuition fees.

• Golden Jubilee Scholarships: This scholarship program was instituted in the year 1997-98 to encourage and recognize excellence in legal education across the country. Two scholarships are offered each year, and the chosen recipients receive a whopping amount of Rs. 25,000/- each.

• Merit-cum-Means Awards: This scholarship is awarded to students based on merit as well as family background. This scholarship will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis.

• National Merit Scholarship Program: This scholarship program is designed to encourage and salute the success of meritorious but economically disadvantaged students. This scholarship program is solely funded by the Government of India

• Scholarships for Dalits: This scholarship program is a special initiative undertaken by the Government of Karnataka and NLSIU, Bangalore to foster excellence amongst the Dalits.

• Scholarships for Physically Disabled Students: The university provides special grants and scholarships for physically disabled students for both UG and PG courses.
