WHAT IS TNTET ?
The Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) is a state-level examination conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB), Tamil Nadu. The test is designed to assess the eligibility of candidates who wish to become teachers in primary (Classes I–V) and upper primary (Classes VI–VIII) schools across the state. WHAT IS THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AND AGE LIMIT ?
Candidates must fulfill certain requirements to apply for TNTET:
- For Paper I (Primary Teachers: Classes I–V):
- Minimum of 50% marks in Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed).
- Candidates with B.El.Ed or Diploma Courses(Special Education) are also eligible.
- For Paper II (Upper Primary Teachers: Classes VI–VIII):
- Graduation with at least 50% marks and a B.Ed degree.
- Candidates with D.El.Ed along with graduation may also apply.
Note: Final-year students of D.El.Ed or B.Ed are eligible to apply provisionally.
Age Limit: - The candidates must be minimum of 18 years old as on 01.07.2025.
There is no such age limit
WHAT IS THE EXAM PATTERN ?
The examination is divided into two papers:
Paper I (For Primary Teachers: Classes I–V)
- Child Development and Pedagogy – 30 marks
- Language I (Tamil) – 30 marks
- Language II (English) – 30 marks
- Mathematics – 30 marks
- Environmental Studies – 30 marks
Total: 150 marks (150 questions)
Paper II (For Upper Primary Teachers: Classes VI–VIII)
- Child Development and Pedagogy – 30 marks
- Language I (Tamil) – 30 marks
- Language II (English) – 30 marks
- Mathematics/Science or Social Science – 60 marks
Total: 150 marks (150 questions)
Duration for both papers: 2 hours 30 minutes
WHAT IS THE SYLLABUS ?
The syllabus is designed as per school curriculum (NCERT & Tamil Nadu Board) standards:
- Paper I: Focuses on child BA - Psychology, language skills, teaching methodologies, and foundational subjects.
- Paper II: Includes advanced child development topics, subject-specific pedagogy, and problem-solving skills in Mathematics, Science, and Social Science.
TNTET Certificate & Validity
Candidates who qualify TNTET are awarded a TET Eligibility Certificate, which is valid for a lifetime. This certificate makes them eligible to apply for teaching positions in Tamil Nadu schools.
