MAT (Management Aptitude Test) is a national level examination conducted by AIMA (All India Management Association) four times in a year. It is conducted to evaluate the aptitude of candidates for admission to Management courses like MBA, PGDM, and other allied programs. The test is conducted both in online and offline modes.
MAT is a paper-based test conducted on the first Sunday of February, May, September, and December. The test consists of 200 multiple choice questions divided into five sections, namely, Language Comprehension, Mathematical Skills, Data Analysis and Sufficiency, Intelligence and Critical Reasoning and Indian and Global Environment. Each section has 40 questions and the total duration of the test is 150 minutes.
The exam pattern of MAT is designed to test the capability of the candidates in various proficiency areas related to the management field. The exam is conducted in various centers across India and the test score is accepted by more than 600 Business Schools across India. The MAT score is valid for one year and can be used to apply for admission to any of the B-schools.
The MAT examination is conducted in both online and offline modes. The online mode of examination is conducted in the form of computer-based test (CBT) while the offline mode of examination is conducted in the form of paper-based test (PBT). The duration of both the tests is two and a half hours and the test consists of 200 multiple-choice questions.
The MAT examination is a comprehensive test of the candidates’ aptitude, analytical and quantitative skills.
The syllabus for MAT examination is different for each section. The syllabus for language comprehension includes questions from grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and usage of words, idioms and phrases, etc. The syllabus for mathematical skills includes questions from arithmetic, algebra, geometry, probability, permutations and combinations, etc. The syllabus for data analysis and sufficiency includes questions from data analysis, data sufficiency, etc. The syllabus for intelligence and critical reasoning includes questions from logical reasoning, critical reasoning, etc. The syllabus for Indian and Global Environment includes questions from current affairs, business and economy, etc.
The MAT score is accepted by more than 600 business schools across India. The MAT score is used for admission to various MBA/PGDM programs offered by the various business schools. The selection process is based on the performance of the candidate in the MAT examination and the other selection criteria of the respective business schools.
