IIT Bombay was established in 1958 and is located in Powai, Mumbai. It is a public engineering and research institute and is one of the most prestigious institutes in India. IIT Bombay has a total of 16 hostels. The hostels are named Hostel 1, Hostel 2, Hostel 3, Hostel 4, Hostel 5, Hostel 6, Hostel 7, Hostel 8, Hostel 9, Hostel 10, Hostel 11, Hostel 12, Hostel 13, Hostel 14, Hostel 15 and Hostel 16. All the hostels are well-equipped and offer a comfortable stay for the students. Each hostel has its own mess and common facilities such as a reading room, library, TV and computer room, etc. Some of the hostels also have air-conditioned study rooms and other modern amenities.
To be eligible for admission to IIT Bombay, applicants must fulfil the following criteria:
• Must have passed the Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) or an equivalent examination with a minimum aggregate of 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
• Must have obtained a minimum of 5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) in the qualifying examination.
• Must have secured a valid rank in either JEE Advanced or JEE Mains.
• Must be born on or after October 1, 1994.
• Applicants from the SC/ST/PwD categories are eligible with a minimum aggregate of 65% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in the qualifying examination.
The selection criteria for IIT Bombay are based on the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced scores. Admission is offered to the top 2,45,000 rank holders in JEE Advanced. The admission process also considers the candidate's performance in their Class 12th examination and their score in JEE Main. Candidates must also meet the minimum cutoff marks set by IIT Bombay in order to qualify for the final selection.
IIT Bombay admissions are done through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). Applicants must appear for JEE Main and Advanced and qualify to be eligible for admission.
The JEE Main and Advanced are conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The exam is dedicated to all engineering aspirants who wish to take admission to the top engineering colleges in India. Apart from JEE, IIT Bombay also offers admission through the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme.
The DASA scheme provides an opportunity for foreign students to gain admission to the institute. IIT Bombay also provides admissions through the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) score.
Candidates with top GATE scores will be eligible for admission into the institute. IIT Bombay also offers admissions through the CSEED (Common for Education and Development of Schools). This is a test conducted by IIT Bombay for admission to the undergraduate engineering program in the institute.
